The clinic for vascular and thorax surgery at the county hospital Rendsburg-Eckernförde is the oldest and biggest of its kind in Schleswig-Holstein.

Founded in the year 1980 as a mere vascular clinic 10 years later the division of the thorax surgery followed. Currently the clinic has more than 47 beds distributed to 2 departments available. All modern vascular and thorax surgical operations will be done in the clinic. The national catchments area extends itself from the outskirts of Hamburg to Nordfriesland and South Denmark, as well from Ditthmarschen over the provincial capital Kiel into far Ostholstein.

The dynamic and well experienced team of the by the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Gefäßchirurgie accredited clinic makes all operations at the vascular system except the input of the heart-lung machine. To this  is a steadily increasing inputof the very gentle endovascular operations, like as the elimination of a aneurysm of the abdominal artery using aortic stent graft, or the stent implantation into narrowed cervical artery in cooperation with the interventional radiology.

Further focuses of the clinic are the so called hybrid operations. That are operations which are made simultaneous by vascular surgeons and radiologists and therefore presents a combination of vascular and radiological methods. The clinic offers also all current bypass implantations with body’s own materials and with synthetic material as well as a very experienced successful and modern operation of the varices, which will be removed preferably by stripping and mini-phlebectomy. In the near future also the laser-therapy will be a routine-method at the county hospital Rendsburg-Eckernförde.

All operations at the lung, bronchial tree and mediastinum are so possible.
